The school bus driver is one of the most important parts of the school day, but it’s a job that some parents don’t think of. These people bring your child to and from school with ease, and sometimes it’s not easy. They have to clean up puke, deal with fights, and keep their eyes on the road no matter what happens… even if it’s a situation that’s life threatening.
When Reneita Smith, a bus driver who brings gorgeous and happy children of Glenarden Woods Elementary School last monday, she would’ve never thought she would come home as a hero. But, this Maryland bus driver was just that: she was faced with a burning bus and jumped in to save the TWENTY children who were still aboard.
One parent named Fazul Kabir went to Facebook and wrote:
“A big THANK YOU to our school bus driver Reneita Smith who just saved 20 elementary school kids from a bus fire that completely destroyed the bus. Not only Reneita took each one of the 20 kids from the bus one by one, but also went into the empty bus again to check if everyone was out, while it was still burning. The bus caught fire on 51st ave near Hollywood road about an hour ago. Thankfully, all the school kids went home safe.”
Not long after, many more families followed suit:
“I passed the scene on my way home from work. It was terrifying. Glad to hear everyone was ok. Thank you Reneita for your swift actions!”
“I was walking up the stairs at Regents Garage when I saw the smoke. Almost called my son who was at home to see what was up! Thank you Reneita!”
“I saw the helicopters and was wondering what was going on…thank goodness everyone is ok and thank goodness for Reneita!”
